Oh hey guys. Sorry to disappoint you (if you haven’t yet checked out the Pottermore site) but it turns out that registration does not open on October 1st, but instead sometime later (presumably October 31st).
However, you can and still should e-mail us your allotted house (if you’re not sure what it is, you can take some internet tests or just read up on the houses enough to decide). Try and keep it a secret, still, from any and all other members until after the Wednesday meeting.
Hey guys. I’d just to remind you all that the registration for Pottermore will be open to all beginning at 6:00 pm today if all estimates are correct. Don’t get your hopes up too much, however, as the site will probably crash for a few days.
I would just like to ask all club members to keep their houses (and wands if you so care) a secret for as many people as possible, and e-mail us the results of the sorting via email@example.com so we can plan a special activity for next week. That is, don’t even tell your best friend forever your Pottermore official house (if you can help it).
That’s all. Oh, and you should post your Pottermore usernames on the forum under a special thread which will be created soon. Bye.
Today, at precisely 11:25 am, my sister received an e-mail from Pottermore saying this:
_____ has been selected for early entry into Pottermore!
We’re really excited to confirm that ______ is one of the lucky people selected for early entry into Pottermore, ahead of when it is open-to-all in October, to help us add finishing touches!
We will activate the account between mid-August and the end of September, so please keep checking your inbox for our Welcome email. When this arrives ______ will be able to enter Pottermore. In the meantime, ______ can check the Pottermore Insider for all the latest news, updates and announcements.
We look forward to welcoming ______ to Pottermore.
Now, seeing as I registered for Pottermore on the second night and my sister registered on the seventh night, I am quite baffled as to why she received her e-mail before I did. The only large difference between our accounts is that she is under 13 and I am above 13, so maybe that has something to do with it. I’m feeling quite abandoned as I never received an e-mail like this.
Anyways, keep checking your e-mail for that message and please leave us a note below if you have any information regarding the distribution of these or other important e-mails.
UPDATE: I have now recieved this e-mail (and I hope you have too). Another difference I just thought of that could have delayed this e-mail coming to me is that my sister and I have different e-mail systems.
Day 1 Clue
How many breeds of owl are featured on the Eeylops Owl Emporium sign?
Multiply this number by 49.
Day 2 Clue
What is the number of the chapter in which Professor McGonagall cancels the Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff?
Multiply this number by 42.
(Note: if you read the Day 2 clue in a language other than English you would have been asked to multiply the answer by a different number to ensure you saw the right language page.)
Day 3 Clue
In the Gryffindor versus Slytherin Quidditch match, in Harry’s third year, how many points is Gryffindor leading by before Harry catches the Golden Snitch?
Multiply this number by 35.
Day 4 Clue
How many students take part in the Triwizard Tournament during Harry’s fourth year?
Multiply this number by 28.
Day 5 Clue
What is the house number of the Headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix in Grimmauld Place?
Multiply this number by 21.
Day 6 Clue
How many chapters are there in HARRY POTTER and the Half-Blood Prince?
Multiply this number by 14.
Day 7 Clue
How many Deathly Hallows are there?
Multiply this number by 7.
Lastly, if you’ll notice, the multipliers were always multiples of 7 in descending order from 49 (7×7) to 7 (7×1).
*** UPDATE: EARLY REGISTRATION FOR POTTERMORE IS NOW CLOSED ***
First off, I would like to remind all of you that beginning (at the earliest) tonight at 6:00 pm the last clue for advanced registration for Pottermore will be released. So if you haven’t already followed the owl and found the Magical Quill, you should do so immediately. Be prepared to stay up late into the night.
Secondly, I would like to announce that tomorrow Anne and I will be hosting a conference by ourselves in which we will discuss various things. One of these things is the Harry Potter Club and its development next year. If you have any input of any type whatsoever that you would like us to talk about, please send us a note (preferably long before 8:00 pm tomorrow).
That’s all. Bye. C.
TWITTER TEXT ALERTS
Set your ringers to loudest, and follow several Pottermore tip-off twitters that are dedicated to tweeting as soon as the clue goes up. Make sure tweets from these users are sent to your cellphone and now you can sleep instead of staying up. Here are a couple.
HAVE THE BOOKS ON HAND
Okay, you can always google it, or you can do a quick search on a .pdf. The one for Chamber of Secrets is HERE .
REFRESH THE PAGE ON THE HOUR
Get into the habit if you’re not adverse to pulling all-nighters. Have the coffee and tea on hand though.
TRACK TWITTER TAGS
Keeping an eye out for the #Pottermore tag helps if somebody suddenly updates with new information.
Also, track tags on all social networking platforms to increase chances of coming across hints.
HAVE A CALCULATOR NEARBY
The questions are likely to be equation-based and require basic multiplication.
Or have the calculator open on your computer.
DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL
If you got in, make sure you’re not making a typo in your excitement for your email address. If you entered it incorrectly, you will miss your chance to verify and will need to register again.
BE WILLING TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX
You may be directed to another Pottermore-affiliated site where you will have to peruse around slightly in order to find the Magical Quill, so be patient.
The Magical Quill question called for the number of breeds of owls on the Eeylops Owl Emporium sign multiplied by 49. The actual number varies depending on which edition you were reading: in this case, the UK edition is the correct one (always rely on the UK edition) with five, and multiplied by forty-nine made a total of 245.
The link you would have inputted would’ve been quill.pottermore.com/245
This was made available this morning at 3am CST. If you were one of the lucky few who got in (like me), then congratulations to you! You are magical! Here are some hasty screenshots I took this morning while I registered, my hands were shaking so badly it was difficult to type in all my information in time.
(I am EchoFloo194 by the way)
If you don’t get your verification email right away, don’t panic. (I didn’t, and I did panic) It took me about twenty minutes to get mine while other people have waited two hours, or otherwise got them immediately. Don’t forget to verify within 48 hours or you’ll have to register again!
The Welcome Email officially letting you into Pottermore will begin being distributed after the Magical Quill promotion is over. I think it goes to the Day 1 people first, then Day 2 and so on and so forth.
Best of luck to all and hope you’re in the lucky million who makes it in to beta test Pottermore!
A very happy Harry Potter Day to you all, and a very happy 31st (champagne) birthday to Mr Harry Potter as well as a fantastic birthday to Ms Joanne Murray who will be turning 46.
In a few hours, a rush of Harry Potter fans will be avidly following the owl (or the clue) that leads them to advance registration for Pottermore. Will you be one of them?
Er… sorry guys. I made a slight miscalculation* about the time of the advance registration for Pottermore. July 31st in BST occurs at 6:00 pm on July 30th Winnipeg Time, which is approximately 40 minutes from now.
I sincerely hope this announcement does not affect any of your plans and that you had all already realized my mistake before now, when you read my original post. By the way, in future, if you ever notice a mistake on our website, please send us a note so we can fix it straightaway.
The Pottermore website is also getting ready for the launch. You can preview it here: http://www.pottermore.com/ . Best of luck.
*The release of the Pottermore announcement video was at 12:00 noon BST, which corresponds to 6:00 am our time. I absent-mindedly assumed advance registration for Pottermore occured at 6:00 am as well.
Hello, all you Harry Potter book fans. Please take note that Sunday is July 31. If you’ll remember, July 31 is not only Harry Potter’s birthday, but JKR’s as well.
This will be a special occasion as Harry will be turning 31 this year, therefore making it his champagne birthday. Jo will be turning 46.
It will be an even more special occasion as July 31 is the day when we can find out more about Pottermore, including secret advanced registration for a lucky select few ahead of the open general registration in October. Waking up for 6:00 am will give you a good chance at survival if you plan on following the owl.
