WHEN DOES THE HPC MEET?

We will meet twice throughout the week during lunchtimes. The meeting dates will change from week to week and we will post the dates of the meetings on this blog ahead of time. One of the days will be reserved for more of a core book-reading and discussion type meeting, and the other day will be more relaxed and with games, quizzes, and other fun activities. You will be expected to come to at least one meeting per week, with a few exceptions when necessary, and there more emphasis on attendance for the core day rather than the relaxed one. Occasionally we may even have after-school events, such as a movie event on a Friday night, where everyone in the school is welcome to come (if they know about it) and [wizard] concessions will be sold (admission being free). Also planned for next year are spectacular events, such as a school-wide trivia contest and a Quidditch Tournament. However, we will need your help to make our dreams come true.

HOW CAN I JOIN?

Just show up to one of our meetings – the sooner the better. You can check when the next meeting is on our website under “Club Meetings“. You can start by following along with our website to get you started on your magical journey with us. Please note that a form must be signed to grant full admission into the club and you must be attending Grant Park High School as a full time student.

CAN I JOIN EVEN IF I HAVEN’T READ THE BOOKS?

Of course! The big thing we are doing this year is reading through the book as a group, and with us you’ll be able to experience the book from many perspectives as you read it for the first time. We’ll try not to divulge any spoilers along the way.

HOW WILL WE BE READING THE BOOKS?

Members will be reading set portions of the books (in order) outside of club meeting times so we can concentrate on fun activities and discussion during the short times we have together. We may read excerpts during meetings, and occasionally participate in reader’s theatre for the most exciting parts (after we’ve read them), but we will mostly discuss what we have read and talk about what to read next time. Details of what we are currently doing can always be found on the site.

CAN I MAKE POSTS ON THE HARRY POTTER CLUB BLOG IF I’M A CLUB MEMBER?

Unfortunately, as the co-dictators and administrators of this blog, we cannot allow members to make posts on the basis of formatting, organization and relevant information. (Also, a cunning Slytherin might post a fraud club announcement which could cause misunderstandings and headaches.) However, we welcome your contribution to the blog through your comments on our posts. To submit a post (such as a nice piece of fanart, a JKR announcement we have not posted yet, etc.) to the blog, simply make your post in the comment section of the Contact Us form. Sign with your real name so we know who to credit for the post and when your post has been moderated and approved, it will appear on the Harry Potter Club blog for everyone to see.

WHY ARE YOU SO OCD ABOUT LITTLE THINGS IN THE BOOKS?

As a fantastic work of art and wonder, we love everything about the books and adore immersing ourselves completely in them. For a full, rounded effect, all relevant details of the Harry Potter world are taken into account, and we pride ourselves on knowing these details. To clarify what we mean by relevant, consider this: we do not bother too much to memorize trivial facts in the series, such as the colour earrings a character was wearing in a particular chapter or when exactly someone sneezed in the context of dialogue. The facts we do specifically observe and are quite nitpicky about are the ones which are connected to key points in the Harry Potter series or universe. These are the details that keep the series alive and uphold the magical yet very real feel of the books. We like to enjoy the books completely and do not miss a chance for new canon information. This is also why, if you were wondering, why we seem to despise aspects of the Harry Potter film franchise. They twist around the details that are ever so important to us and turn the stories into something quite different, almost like a bad parody. If this way of readership seems a bit too much for you, you don’t have to be as particular as we are, just please respect that it is these qualities that make us great co-chairs for you as well.

WHAT IS HARRY POTTER?

…. Have you been living shut out from the whole world in a closet for the past 10 years? No wait, that’s Harry. (JK. Harry did that from 1981-1991.) <– This is an example of the humour us co-chairs have. We are dead sirius.
